Susan Sargent learned to weave tapestries as a student in Sweden, and worked at the loom for twenty years. Her work was shown in various galleries including the Spring Street Gallery in Soho; The AlbrightKnox Museum; and the International Tapestry Show at the Textile Museum in Washington D.C. Most of her work during those years was commissions. Themes of pastoral farm scenes, birds, dancers and acrobats in motion are her signature style. Lately she has begun inserting woven words within the tapestries, and identifies the work as Narrative Folk Art.
Recent Gouache and mixed-media paintings feature birds and textile-like backgrounds.
